Achieving Perfect Grades: How To Plan For It!

It’s no secret that the new school year is taking a toll on all of us; some of us just got done with midterms and a bunch of assignments that floated right above her heads, some of us are looking for the energy to make it to an 8 AM lecture, some of us are stressing out about not stressing out! But you get the gist, right?

If you too are devoid of any motivation and can’t imagine how you’re going to get perfect A’s with your fragile sleeping schedule, your unhealthy obsession with Netflix and the constant threat of being the family embarrassment, looming over your head – you need these six study hacks to make sure you rock this term and get the perfect grades you only dared dream of!

1. Start with the easiest task of all.

The hardest thing to do is to sit at your study table, admit that you need to study and flip open your textbook. You want to procrastinate more and watch another movie but buckle up. Here’s how to get going – start with the easiest subject on your list or the easiest task. Set a time for you to finish it and then time yourself during the task. Once you’ve successfully completed this task you’ll feel a sense of well-being as your brain releases certain neurotransmitters that make you happy when you’ve finally achieved something. This happiness will motivate you to move on to the harder tasks.

2. Schedule everything. EVERYTHING.

Don’t overestimate your ability to complete simple tasks. People make a lot of common mistakes when they’re trying to set a study schedule. They set high goals, aiming to work out, study, do an entire quiz all in one hour. Don’t set impossible goals. Make a list of all the things you need to do and allocate an hour maximum to each, giving yourself plenty of time to focus without worrying about finishing on time.

3. Treat Yourself

If you haven’t made this your mantra yet, you need to (thank you Tom Haverford for this gem!); after you’re done completing your desired task, do something that you consider to be a treat. Eat, run, maybe watch one episode but don’t get too carried away! Rewarding certain behaviors, reinforces them thus, increasing the chances that they’ll occur again. This is called operant conditioning – use this trick to make your life a little easier.

4. Find Your Style

You can’t achieve anything unless you find the way that your mind absorbs and processes information – if you don’t try to explore whether you process information through visuals, auditory help or sense experience you won’t be able to reach your full potential! Find a way, technique, and method and don’t forget to stick to it.

5. Test Yourself

When you’re crafting a study schedule don’t forget to set some time aside for you to attempt practice questions that will give you an idea of what to write when you’re giving a test. If you don’t test yourself on the material you’ve just learned, there’s a high chance that you’ll forget it sooner. Don’t make rookie mistakes, kids.

6. Self-care is important!

Sleep. Eat properly. Exercise. Take up new hobbies to entertain yourself. Socialize with people and find what inspires you in life. Have spa days where you sit and take care of yourself just to release the stress you’ve accumulated from constantly studying. If you don’t do all this you’re likely to explode in a volcanic explosion and trust me, no one wants that.

If you follow these simple steps when suffering from the current academic year you’ll not only guarantee your success but will also help you thrive, improve your mental health and ensure that you’re making the best of your life while getting one step closer to your dreams!
