Amir Liaquat Who Auctioned An Orphan On Television Is Sacked From PTV, And We Need To Wake Up!
Fired or not, we can get into that later, here is the real issue: Apparently, the masses love Amir Liaquat, It’s okay, you don’t have to hate or love him.
Here’s how he is problematic for our society and our global outlook though:
A brief history of Amir Liaquat.
We promise to keep it brief and minimal. Here are things that will shock and hurt you at the same time: he was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2007 and served as the Minister of State for Religious Affairs from 2004 to 2007 in the federal cabinet. Shocked? So are we.
Other than being the Former Minister of Religious Affairs of Pakistan and Hosting Two Ramadaan Transmissions during the start of this month i.e until Friday, he has been into many Public Relations Fiascos, mainly the following:
- In 2008, criticized the Ahmadi community and was banned by PEMRA
- In 2010, said the Pakistan Cricket Team failed because they were wearing green soles, and was then banned by PEMRA
- In 2011, the video went viral of him shouting profanities, and was banned by PEMRA and also many people who formerly liked him
- In 2013, auctioned a child, and received a lot of bashing for the human prize, the story made it to CNN, you can imagine the headlines
The question begged: What was he doing hosting a Show on Pakistan Television?
Ramadan The Holy Time of Rating Wars
Every Channel has its own show. Every channel calls it their Ramadan Transmission, these air both at Suhoor and at Iftaar, and they come in all shapes and sizes from game shows and religious talks and social segments, everything. While some are recorded, some are so-called Live, all are competing for the same big shiny trophy and that is the Masses of Pakistan. And yes, for ratings they can do anything.
Sheeba Foundation, Kid auctioned on Amir Liaquat’s Show, Are We Sure We Need His Shows?
Rephrasing: Are we sure the world to see us enjoy such shows? The story made its way to CNN and Mirror Uk, and if that was not shameful enough here are the details, all over again:
The show Amaan Ramzaan from Geo TV tried to pull the stunt of auctioning newborn babies found at apparent garbage disposals on TV, with the support of Sheeba Foundation. Result: Charity money for the foundation, popularity, and ratings for the channel and home for the child. But, most importantly, whether real or not, the ratings did plop super high, the highest they have been because us Pakistanis we love a tear-jerking jerk.
He then told the studio audience: “This girl was thrown on a pile of garbage by somebody. See how beautiful and innocent she is.” The ‘jackpot prize’ was then handed over to Riaz-ud-din and his wife, who had struggled to conceive.
Why was he fired: While he says he wasn’t, here’s why:
He was being rude to the staff and management

Conclusion I.e Truth Be Spoken: Considering all of his fiascos and blunders and the list of misdemeanors and court cases he has been into, this is perhaps natural of us to assume that he was fired for misbehaving or for whatever reasons. It is not like we need any of this absurd, mediocre bullshit that puts the nation to shame for its taste in entertainment anyway.
