We all know that there is something blatantly wrong with our society. Even after years we could get riddled off of the body shaming issues which men and women, both, face on a daily basis. Is it simply because the world cannot afford to be kinder?
Billie Eilish is a young singer who has amassed a large audience at such a young age. With all the talent and the fame this little one has received at the mere age of seventeen, some people wouldn’t be able to look beyond that at all.
In a recent Calvin Klein interview that has gone viral, Billie is the new star of their campaign. In the short clip that has been going around the internet, she shares why she chooses to wear baggy clothes.
In case you haven’t noticed but Billie has had a distinct clothing style but she never said anything about it. She has often been the butt of countless meme because of her signature style. However, after her explanation, it puts things into perspective.
The advert released earlier this week, she says:
“I never want the world to know everything about me. I mean that’s why I wear big baggy clothes: nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know?”
She continued: “ Nobody can be like, she’s slim-thick, she’s not slim-thick, she’s got a flat ass, she got a fat ass.
“Nobody can say any of that because they don’t know.”
People applauded Calvin Klein for not sexualizing a seventeen year old and letting her address an important issue.
I love how this is a Calvin’s commercial that focuses on how she feels & doesn’t actually show the product, usually those commercials are so sexual but this is a nice change

But ever since the advert came out, people understand why Billie has specifically opted for this style. This even sparked a conversation surrounding the microscopic lens women bodies are placed under on a daily basis.
you don’t have to like the way billie eilish dresses, but at least understand that billie feels she needs to dress in a way that ensures she can’t be sexualised or bodyshamed because people out there can’t keep their nasty, sleazy comments to themselves pic.twitter.com/befM8Dza9g

While another user tweeted: “she shouldn’t have to protect herself from other people, but she does. how could you hate someone who wants the best for themselves? just because she doesn’t do what you want her to? to be normal? just let her be”

Some even found her campaign beautiful and empowering that a girl at such a small age is taking charge of her body completely and not letting anyone tell her how she should protect herself. She is out there looking after herself and that’s self-love!
However, on the other side, some people pointed out that many Muslims observe hijab or choose to dress modestly because of this but aren’t praised the way Billie Eilish has been.
This is the exact belief behind Hijab in Islam but some of y’all call it oppressive no? https://t.co/QvVkedt72g

But the bottom line of this remains: no matter how people choose to dress, it should be a personal choice. No one has the right to dictate and everyone should best mind their own business.
