Uniqueness Gives Birth to Contempt

Like the colors in a spectrum, diverse but equally beautiful, various cultures and races amalgamated into a melange. All of us oddly distinctive but human, stratified by cultures and religions to ease the identification and to highlight the diversity that exists, are oddly alike. ‘Human’ is the only word that can accommodate all of us in a diverse context and it would be unjust to use any word other than this to define us. Being human is the only similarity we have and the only difference too.

Yet we have managed to brand people on the basis of their differences and it was fine until we let those brands define them for us. And classify them only so they could be discriminated against, “black”, “white”, “psychotic”, “crazy”, “gay”, “lesbian”, “queer”.

The list keeps growing. Because each day a new word is added to it which catches on in no time.

When differences are conceived as abnormalities and deviations, contempt is born and it is manifested through a disregard towards anything different from the “normal”, anything that is “unique”.

walls

If war is holy and sex is obscene, then we got it twisted in this lucid dream.
Baptized in boundaries, schooled in sin
Divided by difference, sexuality, and skin
So we can fear each other, and hate each other
We can break these walls, we can build these walls, between each other
Baby blow by blow, and brick by brick
Keep yourself locked in, yourself locked
Oh, maybe we can love somebody
Maybe we could care a little more
Maybe we could love somebody, instead of polishing the bombs of holy war.
