Thugs of Pakistan: TLP and TLYK

Ok, so what has managed to antagonize Sir Rizvi yet again? What has ticked him off this time around?

In retrospect, TLP decided to observe Martyrs’ day on Nov 25, 2018, when the Faizabad sit-in last year ended with an agreement between the previous government and TLP leaders. The four-week protest in the state capital and the countrywide display of violence and terror by the far-right zealots that accompanied it had immutable ramifications for the state and citizens alike.

Recently, Aasia Bibi’s Acquittal set the grenade in Sir Rizvi’s head off again who then incited his ‘Muslim’ followers to rebel against the Army proclaiming the Army chief “a non-Muslim” and Chief justice ‘liable to be killed’.

So much for “Ishiq e rasool”…

The government then negotiated with, in fact, capitulated to the unreasonable demands of the protesters to restore law and order in the state.

So what is it this time? Why are these thugs talk of the town again?

Well, blame November 25th, TLP had scheduled a rally at Liaquat Bagh, RWP to commemorate its”martyrs” from last years’ protest against the legislators for alleged amendments in the oath. The government, as well as local administration, pleaded with them to hold off the protest in the light of recent upsurge in terrorism across the country. But Khadim Hussain Rizvi resorted to his classic tactics of getting his own way: Thuggery (through terrorizing state and public) and therefore, paid no heed to governments’ requests. The government proactively instructed LEA’s to take these clerics and their disciples into custody. So far, in an extensive crackdown, 537 of these workers along with TLP district leaders and the two agitators have been arrested by the LEA’s (local police, Elite and Dolphin Force) at the Yateem Khana Rehmatallil Alameen Mosque after the issuance of an arrest warrant.

The Information Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, clarified the irrelevance of the arrest to Asia Bibi’s case and attributed it to the protest call by TLP and TLYR leaders.

His tweet elucidated that Rizvi was taken into “protective custody” and then shifted to a guest house on account of sedition.

He further reassured the public that the situation is under control and that this action was taken since TLP exploited religion on multiple occasions inciting its followers to rebellion causing a damage to both public life and property. He delineated the supremacy of law in conclusion.

Following the arrest, protests across the country by TLP and TLYK followers have transpired and the government is taking due measures to restore peace in the country but what really concerns me is that,

Should we be anticipating any holidays or should we go back to dreading the upcoming week? Enigma..
